How Did The Plan of God Unfold Through History?
We read from Gensis 5: 1-5 1. “Here is the genealogy of Adam. On the day that God created man he made him in the likeness of God; 2. he created them male and female; he blessed them and called them Adam [humankind, man] on the day they were created. 3. After Adam lived 130 years, he fathered a son like himself and named him Shet. 4. After Shet was born, Adam lived another 800 years and had both sons and daughters. 5. In all, Adam lived 930 years, and then he died.” (CJB)*
The whole of Genesis 5 sets out the linage of Adam through to Noah. If one does the Maths, then you will find Adam was still living when Lamech was alive. Lamech was 56 when Adam died. Lamech was the Father of Noah. Lamech at the age of 182 years when Noah was born.
Why is all this relevant?
Adam saw 8 generations before he died. This means Adam was able to pass down to his generations almost to Noah about what he experience on The Garden of Eden. This history Noah would have passed on to his sons from his father Lamech would have been great.
There is so much that could be said about this, but it is not the time to go there. Noah when God called him to build an ark to save his family from a coming flood, he was around 500 years old. Noah’s trust in God was so great the scriptures state that Noah preached to the corrupt society around him some 100 years during the time he built the ark.
Mankind had become so corrupt because of the sons of God, fallen angel beings. They used their power to change the genetic nature of all flesh that they could no longer be called human. See Genesis 6: 1-6; for more information about this. The flood was to only way to cleanse the earth from the degradation. Noah was the only on that was not compromised.
Noah’s faithfulness in building the ark to save himself as well as his family declares that a principle that continues through out the Bible. This principle is that God preserves the Righteous to continue on while removing the evil from their midst.
Here is a pattern that we need to keep in mind as we continue our journey to understand what is the main theme the Bible wants to show us.
The evil we see all around us is not taken away by God’s intervention, but He acts on behalf of a Righteous person or a person’s acting on their authority to demand an act of God to deliver the Righteous by taking out the evil from amount them.
Let’s continue this as we look at the after-Flood experience of mankind.
