Why Is Sin The Main Sticking Point in the Bible?
To understand this question, we need to go back before Adam was in the Garden to know how Sin was started.
Much of what I will present here comes for many parts of the Bible so it not very easy to piece together a clear picture. There is not the space or the need to present all of these points, but I have gleaned my understanding from good sources of Christian teachers.
At some point of time before Garden story there was rebellion in Heaven. A high-ranking angel wanted more authority that God had given to him. Because of his position he was able to use his authority in a way that when against God purposes. That rebellion caused a great deal of trouble in the Plan God had for His creation. That angel used his ill-gotten authority to entice Adam to rebel in The Garden of Eden.
Here is where we see God had a Plan of redemption before Adam was placed in the Garden and Satan tempted him (this is that angel’s current name). The declaration that Satan would bruise His heal (the Seed - Jesus) but He (Jesus) would crush his (Satan’s) head; Genesis 3:15b. The vision of the Crucifixion portrayed long before it occurred, God saw the end from the beginning.
From this time on there is a struggle between the forces of good (God’s Plan) and evil Satan’s attempts of trying to take over.
So, getting back to the question above, why is Sin a big issue in the Bible. This may be a little difficult to explain but I will give you my personal explanation.
Man was originally created in the Image of God which means Adam had the free choice to be obedient or not. God chooses not to do anything that does not fit His Nature. For man to continue reflecting that Image of God he needed to refrain from choosing anything that does not reflect the same Nature of God. Without the existence of evil (things against God’s Nature) Adam’s free choice had nothing to be judged by
Now that Sin had entered the world because of Adam’s disobedience mankind can still make good decisions to be obedient. This pleases God but there is a gap because of that original Sin so the close relationship with God is not there. Here is the saga of text that follows on from the Garden scene.
So, why doesn’t God just come in clean up all the evil and we can get back to the beginning? When you read God’s commission to Adam you will note that Adam was given dominion over all living creatures, all that God had made. This did not include Mankind as some might think. In Adam giving his allegiance to Satan by his disobedience some of that domination came into Satan’s hands. As God had given the original domination to Mankind through Adam it is only through a man that this domination can that be taken back. Even Satan has to use a man to gain access to the earth so he can create havoc in God’s Earth.
This continual tendency to sin in mankind makes this an impossible task because it takes a man without Sin to defeat the death that Sin caused. This is a clue as to why it took so long for the answer to be introduced into the earth which is the theme of the bible.
