What Is So Special About The New Birth?
Paul talks about the New Birth as being a Mystery hidden from all the ages. The mystery of the Church which we as Christians are a part.
So how does this mystery unfold as we travel through the pages of the scriptures, particularly what we call the New Testament?
Given as I have stated above, I am Soul Being, I live in Body, and I am kept alive by the Spirit how does all this work out in the New Birth?
Let’s start from the beginning. When some in born naturally they are the offspring of a man and a woman. So, the man and the woman give part of themselves to their offspring. What is this?
The physical body is a shared part of the parents, so the child has a mixture of both parents but only part because of the X and Y chromosomes that come from each parent. The new child will reflect their parents in different ways.
So, what about the Soul? Here is my take. As with the Body the parents both give something of their Soul to the new child which can be seen by the way that child will as they grow up demonstrate aspects of each parent. There could be much said here but I want to be a simple as I can so you might get the direction I am taking.
Looking back to the first two parents their children had to reflect them as an individual i.e., a Soul Being, living in a Body, and having a life source from the Spirit of God. The problem is that they never had children till after they were disobedient to God’s command regarding the Tree of the Knowledge of God and Evil. So, the only life that they could pass on was this now corrupted life that had lost the close connection to God.
To put it simply, if they were to pass life from God so that the child would complete Soul, Body and Spirit, that life passed on was now contaminated with selfish orientation. I will go into this more later, but I need to show how the New Birth, New Creation, lines up against what we all receive from our parents.
God our Father wants to come into relationship with His fallen mankind but here is a real problem. The Spiritual part of us is contaminated with this self-ambition and this is so contrary to His Nature. The only way is somehow to make this change. The rebellion that Adam did in the Garden needs to paid for so mankind could return back to God’s Family.
Up until the Death and Resurrection of Jesus mankind could only, please God by their good works, being obedient to what God had informed them though all the Patriarchs that we see in the Old Testament Scriptures. So, a human that did not have this contaminated Spirit could pay for Sin by dying as a ransom for us. I am trying to keep it simple so, I hope you are with me.
How does the New Birth differ from the natural birth?
Consider this. When a person decides to make Jesus their Lord and Saviour, they are asking that the price Jesus paid be accredited to them. For the Life of God to come and dwell inside of them a change much occur. The Spiritual Being of the person needs to have a New Source of Life. This is when the Life of Christ comes into that person and the old life from their parents (the life from Adam) has to be removed.
Now we know that when the spirit of a person leaves that person dies. So, when the Paul talks about us having ‘died’ this really happens. The old spirit leaves we die but in an instant the Life of Christ come in we a remade alive again.
Here I would like to share on what I consider to be the situation regarding children being ‘born in sin’ but I need to focus on the main theme.
I next want to share about being ‘one with Christ’, being in Christ, and how we are part of the ‘Body of Christ’, I will continue in the next Study.
