Chapter 10 - (CJB)*

Chapter 10:1-21 (CJB)

1. Brothers, my heart’s deepest desire and my prayer to God for Isra’el is for their salvation;

2. for I can testify to their zeal for God. But it not based on correct understanding;

3. for, since they are unaware of God’s way of making people righteous and instead seek to set up their own, they have not submitted themselves to God’s way of making people righteous.

4. For the goal at which the Torah aims is the Messiah, who offers righteousness to everyone who trusts.

5. For Moshe writes about the righteousness grounded in the Torah that the person who does these things will attain life through them.

6. Moreover, the righteousness grounded in trusting says: “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend to heaven?’ ”— that is, to bring the Messiah down—

7. or, “ ‘Who will descend into Sh’ol?’ ”— that is, to bring the Messiah up from the dead.

8. What, then, does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart.”—

9. that if you acknowledge publicly with your mouth that Yeshua is Lord and trust in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be delivered.

10. For with the heart one goes on trusting and thus continues toward righteousness, while with the mouth one keeps on making public acknowledgement and thus continues toward deliverance.

11. For the passage quoted says that everyone who rests his trust on him will not be humiliated.

12. That means that there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—ADONAI is the same for everyone, rich toward everyone who calls on him,

13. since everyone who calls on the name of ADONAI will be delivered.

14. But how can they call on someone if they haven’t trusted in him? And how can they trust in someone if they haven’t heard about him? And how can they hear about someone if no one is proclaiming him?

15. And how can people proclaim him unless God sends them?—as the Tanakh puts it, “How beautiful are the feet of those announcing good news about good things!”

16. The problem is that they haven’t all paid attention to the Good News and obeyed it. For Yesha‘yahu says, “ADONAI, who has trusted what he has heard from us?”

17. So trust comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through a word proclaimed about the Messiah.

18. But, I say, isn’t it rather that they didn’t hear?” No, they did hear— “Their voice has gone out throughout the whole world and their words to the ends of the earth.”

19. “But, I say, isn’t it rather that Isra’el didn’t understand?” “I will provoke you to jealousy over a non-nation, over a nation void of understanding I will make you angry.”

20. Moreover, Yesha‘yahu boldly says, “I was found by those who were not looking for me, I became known to those who did not ask for me”;

21. but to Isra’el he says, “All day long I held out my hands to a people who kept disobeying and contradicting.”

Study - Chapter 10

Ch 10: verses, 1-4,

Paul Again expresses his deep desire that his people the Jews would see that the Messiah, the one they have been waiting for in fact is Jesus.

He laments over the fact that they seem to think that by observing the Law they are made Righteous. Their efforts will bring the Messiah to come to them and rescue they for the oppression of Rome.

Verse 4: "For the goal at which the Torah aims is the Messiah, who offers righteousness to everyone who trusts.

........

Ch 10: verses, 5-13,

Paul begins to explain how the Law, the Torah, should be used in th correct way rather than the way the Religious Leaders were applying in his day.

Although the Law, the Torah, convicts a person of Sin and does not really show the way not to Sin it does have a good intention.

Paul states that as Verse 5: "Moshe writes about the righteousness grounded in the Torah that the person who does these things will attain life through them". How is this possible?

As Paul continues he appeares to answering some questions that the people of his day were asking. The questions seem to convey the idea tha this Salvation must be gained by doing something like, 'going to heaven' or 'going to hell' or some distant place.

Paul's answer to the people of his day, that is after the Death and Resurection of Jesus, if you believe in your heart that Jesus is The Lord and confess this with your mouth you will be saved.

How this worked in the time before the Death and Recurection of Jesus, was the trusting of the person in obedience to following what the Law, the Torah, stated for them to do then it was considered as Righteouness for that person.

In simple terms, it was their belief or obedience to obey the Law not their actions in fulfilling what the stated to do.

This is what makes the 'rule' the same for both the Jew and the Gentile, it is the Trust, the 'Faith' in what God has stated to shows obedience in Him.

As Verse 13: States, "everyone who calls on the name of ADONAI will be delivered".

........

Ch 10: verses, 14-21,

Paul goes on to explain how the "Truth" of this message is to carried out.

He answers this with a seris of questions. They haven't 'Trusted' because they have not heard. - They haven't heard because no-one has spoken. - No-one has spoken because no-one has been sent.

The solution is in Verse 15: "And how can people proclaim him unless God sends them?—as the Tanakh puts it, “How beautiful are the feet of those announcing good news about good things!”

So if it is so simlpe, that God has sent people to proclaim His 'Good News", why are there so many that have not responded.

This Paul's great delima. Especially in regards to his own people. Although it is just a matter of hearing and obeying many have not done so.

Why?

Paul continues; it is because they did not understand. They were so cought up with"doing" the Law that they missed to whole point of the Law. Mainly a person can not do everything that the Law ask of them so they have to keep coming back to ask for forgiveness. Make sacrifices to cover their sin.

The Law was there to show them of their total dependance in God's Mercy which was giving something to 'do' to show their obedience.

A study of the Old Testement clearly shows how many times Isreal turned away from God and He lovingly tries to bring them back to forgiveness.

He was always Faithful to forgive their transgression and bring them back under His protection.
